This academic exercise is a descriptive study of human ecology in Labohan Dagang, Selangor. It describes three aspects of the human ecosystem namely the physical (abiotic), biotic and social environment. Though the study is concerned with these three aspects, they are not presented as three separate topics in the writing of this academic exercise. This is because the study attempts to achieve a holistic perspective of mans interaction with hie environment. The first chapter discusses the importance of ecological research and outlines the purpose and scope of study, methodology of research and also difficulties encountered in fieldwork. The second chapter presents a oomprehensive knowledge background of the village and community studied. The third chapter then proceeds to a specific study on the river an important abiotic component of the human eco-system. In chapter four, the writer discusses the agricultural activities carried out by the human population in the village. Chapter five then gives an inventory of identified fauna and also discusses the extent of human interaction with this component of the ecosystem. Succeedingly, chapter six describes the relationship of the human population with the external environment and the extent to which this influences and affects social exchange in the community. In the concluding chapter, the writer notes the environmental concern of the human population and summarize the most significant aspects of the human ecosystem.
