Abstract

The proposed research study is somewhat related to the decline in moral sex which is observed to be widespread and is now covering a very large portion in our country. It is one of the social problems which has been very much discussed. The choice of “khalwat” as the main themes of this research study is due to the serious condition as one type of sexual promiscuity. The Islamic laws has clearly stated that the religion Islam forbids the action of “khalwat”. However, it is yet still widespread although it should be a strong principle of Islam in our country. This research is based on the following stated hypothesis:- (i) Khalwat (close proximity) develop according to the degree of modernization increase. It si widespread in agrees which is undergoing rapid social and economic change. (ii) Khalwat occurs in a society which is more interested with the individual materials rather than the welfare of the society as a whole. (iii) Khalwat is commited by persons who have low religious concepts and at the same time manifestation of the deprivation of legitime access to legitimate means of sexual gratification. Therefore, urbanization is basically the effect of living in which is found characteristics of conflict of norms, rapid social changes, increased mobility of the population, emphasis on material goods and individualism, decline in intimate communication and increased release from formal and informal control. The characterization in turn create a sense of frustration and give rise to situation which is conducive to khalwat including sexual deviance. When legitimate means of achieving desired social goal is blocked, man will seek other means to reach that goal. The research study is carried out with reference to the cases of khalwat in Penang with comparisons to cases in Bukit Mertajam. The research is done with the analysis of dates from the Syariah court in both areas. The studied dates are information of places, time, age, occupation, sex and race. The problems faced in developing moral and also suggestions and steps to be to overcome these problems are explained at the end of the study.
