    Abstract

The revolution of Internet has enable billions of people all around the world to communicate interactively. Thus, business people have made used of the global market space in the Internet which breaks through the barrier of time and distance to promote their products. The Electronic Cars System is one of the e-commerce solutions for merchants to conduct business over the Internet and the target users are local car dealers and potential car buyers including local people and foreign workers in Malaysia only. Electronic cars system is a fascinating and worthwhile topic to be researched on. This thesis steps towards developing a web based car retail system for both new and used cars, which processes customers' requests over the Internet. The system enables car retail agents to set up a virtual store at the Internet and manage customers' online orders. Potential buyers may view the entire list of vehicles available in the showroom, search a vehicle after specifications, place an order and make a payment over the open network. Some wonderful features of the system are that it is designed to allow customers to study the information about a particular car and make comparison with other cars which are available in the database. The Electronic Cars Systems (ECS) is developed by using waterfall and prototyping models. Three-tier client server will be implemented to model the system architecture. Besides, ECS is planned to be developed by using MySQL as its database, Java Server Pages (JSP) and Servlets as its web development technologies on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform. The system is designed and developed with the latest and powerful technology; therefore, it is expected to be highly efficient in terms of execution speed and response time. The system is dynamic as well as able to support a great number of concurrent users to interact with the system over the Internet.
