Abstract
The rise and the fall of a nation depends upon its young generation. The destiny of the nation depends, among other things, depends further upon the quality of its generation, the better generation the better the nation is. The quality of young generation can be improved through education. The quality of education is influenced by many interrelated factors among of which are the qualification, competence, and performance of the school principals, teachers, administration staffs, and students as well. The research was aimed to find out how far are teacher perception on the instructional leadership of Islamic Senior High School Principals in Banten Province, Indonesia, their practices of school based management, and emotional intelligence respectively. Moreover, this research was also primarily aimed to find out whether the selected variables, i.e. the application of school based management, the emotional intelligence, are positively correlated, both individually or collectively, to the teacher perception on the instructional leadership of Islamic Senior High School Principals in Banten Province, Indonesia. This research was conducted so as to cover all Islamic Senior High Schools operated in Banten Province, Indonesia. The research method employed in this study was a survey one with correlational technique, i.e. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The respondents involved in this research were 180 teachers coming from among 210 both state and private run Islamic senior high school all over parts the Province: Kota Tangerang, Kota Tangerang Selatan, Kabupaten Tangerang, Kota Serang, Kabupaten Serang, Kota Cilegon, Kabupaten Pandeglang, and Kabupaten Lebak. As for the research instruments used in the research respectively designed in the forms questionnaires’ of instructional leadership of senior high schools principals, adopted from Hallinger (1987) and Krug (1992); the practice of school based management, developed literature and document policy of school based management in Indonesia; and questionnaires of emotional intelligence, adopted from Bar-On (2000), and Peter Salovey and Jack Mayer (2002). The result of the research showed that teacher perception on : (1) the instructional leadership of the Islamic senior high school principals was categorized good, (2) the practice of school based management could be safely said of being good, (3) the level of their emotional intelligence was also classified as good. In addition, this research finding also showed that: (1) there was positive correlation between teacher perception the practice of school based management and instructional leadership;(2) there was positive correlation between teacher perception on emotional intelligence and instructional leadership; (3) there was positive correlation between teacher perception the practice of school based management, and emotional intelligence and instructional leadership of Islamic senior high school principals in Banten Province, Indonesia. Based on the afromentioned findings, the research implication is that to enhance the instructional leadership of the Islamic senior high school principals in Banten Province, Indonesia, so as to such serious make maximum betterment, it is high time to take among others things, the improvement of both theoretical and practical aspects of practice school based management and emotional intelligence of the school principals. Meanwhile, based on the above finding it could be wisely suggested that the Ministry of Religious Affairs of The Republic Indonesia, especially the Regional Office the Islamic senior high school affiliation, should continuously and consistently develop a well-planed training programs to enhance the knowledge and competence and involving some experienced experts in the respective relevant fields. Furthermore , the Islamic senior high school principals should be whole heartedly aware and responsible to independently improve their knowledge and competence relevant to their occupations, including the school based management and emotional intelligence. Finally, similar research designs of this kind or other research approaches should also be conducted so as to broaden and find out other aspects or variables supposed to have relationship or influence to the instructional leadership of the Islamic high school principals in Banten Province, Indonesia.
